Claim Your Goals as if They Were Already Yours

We have officially made it to January.

A month signifying rebirth and renewal. The time of new resolutions and intentions, with the hope that maybe, just maybe, this year will be the one where all my dreams come true.

I, like many people, have set up my own personal goals I look forward to accomplishing this year. Also like many people, based on past “New Years”, I am prone to leaving a big chunk of my goals incomplete by December. (Let’s be honest, I probably stopped trying after February.)

However, something feels different for me this year, and I’m certain it’s due in part to one very crucial change. This year, I actually BELIEVE I can do it.

The beginning of change

Towards the end of last year, I managed to dive full throttle into reading. I went from not having picked up a book in years to reading five in the month of November. To continue this streak of reading in 2023, I went to my local Half Price Books and had the pleasure of picking up Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. A book that, at face value, teaches you how to become rich.

Usually non-fiction isn’t really my go-to (more of a novel guy). But one of my goals this year is to become more financially fluent, so I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to learn more about money. However, what I gained from his words transcends what I thought was possible from a finance book.

The Art of Belief and Desire

In one of the very first chapters, he mentions the aspect of DESIRE. He describes true desire not as a wish or a hope, but a powerful obsession that is DEFINITE. An obsession so strong in fact, that it forces you to become one with your goal, believing that you will obtain it no matter the circumstances.

With this definition in mind, we can apply this philosophy to many of the successful people we’ve seen achieve great things in the world today.

The power of belief and desire is not reserved only for the talented, the special or the self-disciplined. To enter this state of being, you must only shift your mindset from that of failure to one of success. You must have a mindset of abundance.

Healing the scarce mind

Too many of us live life in a state of scarcity. I for one, fit this definition to a tee for the better part of my life. I used to believe that I needed to hoard what I had and not dream too big less it be taken away.

I would debate with myself, believing that “If only I had a better upbringing” or “it’s probably too late to start” etc.

This thinking only creates a level of disbelief in yourself, perpetuating the notion that you can’t trust yourself to accomplish your goals. These successful entrepreneurs definitely had their doubts, but in no way did it stop them from believing in their dream. In no way did it deter them from believing it was possible.

A proper mindset

How often in your life have you debated with yourself asking if your dream was feasible? Well I am here to tell you that it 100% is. Before you plan and proceed with a course of action, make sure you START with a proper mindset.

Forego any doubt you have in your mind and conjure a belief so strong in who you wish to become, that nothing can alter your course.

It can be as simple as writing a journal entry, imagining yourself a year from now when you’ve already accomplished all your goals. Or perhaps, instead of stating you “are trying to write” you say “I am a writer”. Simple mantras and activities like this can begin to fill you with the power of belief and desire.

Regardless of whatever path you choose to accomplish your goals this year. Remember to claim it as if it were already yours.
