Mimic Social

Doing this mimic social project has really opened my eyes to everything that is involved in posting and marketing on social media. It’s obvious that over the past 5 years or so I’d say that social media is the best way to promote your product or business. With majority of people having smart phones, they have immediate access to free social media apps which in turn automatically opens them up to promotions from different companies and products. This also gives you the ability to be your own boss and create your own company or brand which is the big thing that I really like about social media. Before having any experience through this mimic social project, I would scroll through my social media apps and different products would pop up and I wouldn’t think twice about why or how that specific product would pop up on my feed. I also didn’t really think about the algorithm and how they knew I would want to shop that certain clothing line or product.

It has been cool to see friends that have had ideas to start different clothing brands and they are able to do it and market themselves for free through social media and see the success that they’ve had. It’s given me a different perspective on social media marketing and a new level of respect in the sense that you must be so consistent and specific. If I’d never done this mimic social project, I wouldn’t have known how much goes into it regarding posting at certain times, finding your target market and posting things that pertain to them or even picking the right platform to post on. It’s also very cool to see how companies can collaborate and the relationships your able to create in a business sense through social media.

Mimic social has shown me just how customizable you can be when marketing yourself or brand as well as the importance of it. It’s great how is shows you your success rate of each platform after you create a post and what you can do better regarding either reach, awareness, or say engagement relating to each platform. The first week of the experiment was a bit of a toss-up for me as I haven’t had a ton of experience with online marketing, so it was eye opening to see what worked and what didn’t work. Now that we are on week 6 or 7 of the project, I’ve started to get the hang of certain things like how important it is to post at the right time depending on which platform you’re using. I’ve also noticed the importance of an eye-catching headline or a detailed description to either gain awareness or new followers. Mimic social recently added the feature of having paid advertising which has been helpful in learning how to allocate your money in the right places to maximize reach with a certain amount of money.

Overall, mimic social has been a great tool to give some insight on what it might be like marketing on social media platforms and how vital it can be to growing a business, especially in this day in age. I look forward to the rest of the project and hope to continue to gain knowledge on tools that I can implement on social media in the future.
